Despite the budget gap, with Flamengo’s 2024 budget soaring to R$1 billion against Palmeiras’s R$880 million, the rivalry remains intense. Palmeiras has not defeated Flamengo in the Brazilian Championship since 2017, a streak they hope to break.
This game marks the first tactical duel between Ferreira and Tite, Flamengo’s coach. Ferreira showed respect for Tite’s experience, noting, “Flamengo has ready players, a coach that you know better than me, who comes with titles and experience. It’s a game that we’re going to study.”
Remembering Zagallo
