The Supreme Federal Court of Brazil has postponed its decision on Ednaldo Rodrigues’ tenure as president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The case, initially set for Wednesday, was delayed due to a crowded docket and the prioritization of other cases requiring extensive review by Minister Edson Fachin.

“We will revisit the matter when Minister Gilmar Mendes, the case’s rapporteur, is present,” the court announced. Mendes’ injunction currently allows Rodrigues to remain in his position.

What happened?

The court has postponed its decision on the presidency of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) due to a challenge from the Communist Party of Brazil. The party is challenging the Public Ministry’s right to enter into a Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC) with the CBF, an agreement crucial to Ednaldo Rodrigues’ initial election.

While the Rio courts later nullified this election, Minister Gilmar Mendes temporarily reinstated it with a court order.

“The ongoing legal proceedings are critical to the governance of Brazilian football,” Rodrigues stated, highlighting the significance of the upcoming court decision. The STF has not yet announced a new date to decide on Rodrigues’ future at the CBF.
