The Fla-Flu bid stands at R$20,060,864.12 annually, slightly above Vasco and WTorre’s R$20,000,777.28.

Despite Fla-Flu’s leading position, the Government Bidding Committee has yet to declare an official winner, with results pending in the Official Gazette of Rio de Janeiro. Vasco and WTorre have contested the fairness of the process, accusing it of favoring Flamengo and Fluminense.

Responding to these claims, Rodrigo Dunshee, Flamengo’s Vice President of General and Legal Affairs, confidently outlined their consortium’s vision for Maracanã. “The consortium will do great things at Maracanã that it couldn’t do before, now that we have a 20-year lease,” he said, asserting their dual victory in terms of technical merit and financial offer. “If you win in technique and price, who will say what?”

Addressing access to the stadium for other clubs, Dunshee recognized the scheduling challenges but reassured that their intent is not to exclude. “Flamengo and Fluminense don’t want to stop anyone from using it, but we have to pay attention to the conservation of the pitch,” he explained, emphasizing the balance needed between use and maintenance.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
