Gabriel Magalhães is resting in Brazil after the arduous season with Arsenal that left him on the verge of winning the title and before traveling to the United States to train with the national team ahead of the 2024 Copa América. In the middle of those vacations he went to the stadium to watching Corinthians, a team of which he is a fan, in the 2-1 victory against América de Natal.

In a video that quickly went viral on the internet, the defender is seen traveling by subway to the Neo Química Arena, the scene of the Brazil Cup match. In the images he can be seen singing and jumping with the Timão fans, despite the sling on his arm due to an injury in the last match against Everton.

The defender was born in the city of São Paulo and used to go to the stadium to cheer on the team with his father. Although his career began at Avaí and then went through French and Croatian football, before arriving at Arsenal in 2020, he already expressed his desire to represent the São Paulo team of which he is a fan in the future.

“It is a club that, God willing, one day I will be able to wear the shirt. Whenever I am in Brazil I try to go to the games because I like it, my family likes it and my friends are also from Corinthians. “We always try to go to the games when I’m there,” he declared to ESPN in December of last year.

To their satisfaction, the team led by António Oliveira advanced to the next round of the cup with a score of 4-2, thanks to goals from Yuri Alberto and Cacá, already in added time. After a bad campaign in the Brasileirão (they are in 16th position), next Tuesday the qualification for the round of 16 of the Sudamericana will be played in the home duel against Racing de Montevideo.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
