In the last five years, only Ederson, Alisson, and Weverton have started for the Brazilian national team between the sticks. 62 games and 2020 days later, the Verdeamarela will take the field with a debutant goalkeeper when they face England at Wembley on Saturday, March 23.

Bento (Athletico Paranaense), Léo Jardim (Vasco da Gama), and Rafael (São Paulo) were Dorival Júnior’s picks for the March FIFA window, and for any of them, it would mean their first cap with the senior national team.

The last time Brazil played with a debutant GK

The last time Brazil played with a debutant keeper came on September 11, 2018, in a friendly against El Salvador. In the first international break after the World Cup in Russia, Tite decided to try Neto, who shone for Valencia back then. Although he had been called up several times, Neto had never had the chance to play until then. His first appearance was quiet, as Brazil thrashed 5-0 El Salvador in Washington, United States.

Since then, Alisson played 31 games, while Ederson appeared in 24 matches, and Weverton made eight starts.

What happened to Alisson and Ederson?

The Manchester City goalkeeper suffered a muscle injury in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Sunday, March 10, which ruled him out for at least four weeks. The Liverpool star faces a similar issue, as he has been out of action for over a month after leaving training with discomfort.
