It took a while, but Gabriel Magalhaes eventually made his way to the Brazilian national team. The 25-year-old has already established himself at Arsenal, but now he’s looking to do that with the Selecao as well. Fernando Diniz once again called him up for the November international break, which is why the defender wants to pay back the coach’s confidence.

“To play for Brazil is a big dream,” Gabriel told Arsenal’s official website. “The first time I was called up, I was at home and Edu called me. He said I was in the national team and I never forget this day.

“It’s a good feeling to sing the national anthem. It’s better and better every time I go to the national team. My family were there for my first goal and I was so happy to score,” added the center-back, who scored his first international goal in Brazil’s 1-1 draw against Venezuela.

Gunner representatives in Brazil

While Magalhaes’ presence at the national team is a reward to his great performances in north London, he’s not the only Gunner on the Brazilian squad. In fact, Magalhaes is next to his namesakes Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, who also shine at the Emirates Stadium.

“It’s good for the club and for us,” Magalhaes said about their presence. “The three Gabriels in the national team is so good for us, for everyone and the fans. It’s good for the club and we work very hard to be there.”

With Thiago Silva no longer being part of the national team, Magalhaes has a unique opportunity to win a spot in Brazil’s starting lineup from now on.
