A club of passionate fans, one of the greats of football in Santa Catarina, Chapecoense completes 51 years this Friday (10). The official history begins on May 10, 1973, when sports enthusiasts from the city gathered to create a professional team in Chapecó.

The foundation was based on the merger of the amateur clubs Atlético Chapecoense and Independente. Soon, Chapecoense would begin to stand out. Their first state title came in 1977.

Since then, there have been six more Catarinense conquests, the last in 2020. This has projected Chapecoense to be one of the most powerful teams in the State, rivaling Avaí, Figueirense and Criciúma.

The greatest achievement in their history was in 2016, when they were crowned champions of the Copa Sudamericana. Chapecoense also had good campaigns in the top tier of Brazilian football and is now in the Série B of the Brasileirão.

In the current edition of the National Second Division, Chapecoense is undefeated and occupies the fifth position.

In a demonstration of its charisma and the admiration it arouses among its fans and many other people, Chapecoense has a quite expressive number of followers on social networks. On Instagram alone, there are 1.8 million.
