Chelsea’s season was infinitely worse than expected. However, there are a few players who are exempted from liability. One of them is defender Thiago Silva.

The Brazilian arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2020 with a wealth of experience at the highest level, and it didn’t take long for him to become a benchmark for the team. Three years later, even when things go wrong, the fans plan to recognize their captain.

Thiago Silva would be honored by the Chelsea fans

As reported by the British media Evening Standard, the Chelsea fans would display a curtain with the image of Thiago Silva in the last two home games of the semester.

The Blues will face Nottingham Forest on Saturday (13) in London and will receive Newcastle to close the season on the 28th of the same month. In between, they will visit the two Manchester teams.

Such recognition reflects the impact Silva had on the club, as Chelsea’s year fell far short of expectations. Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard went through the bench but none could achieve results, and the millionaire investment by the board was a great failure. The London team fell far short of the top spots in the Premier League, was beaten by Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League and left much to be desired in domestic cups.

The fans, however, empathized with Thiago Silva, who was encouraged to publicly criticize the leadership for its decision-making in the last year. The veteran defender still has a contract until 2024, so his time at Chelsea could have one more chapter. Even so, and with rumors from Fluminense, the fans believe that it is time to honor him.
