The last few years have been challenging for Barcelona. After a troubled endung to Josep Maria Bartomeu’s tenure, Joan Laporta took over the presidency of the Catalan institution after winning the elections in March 2021. The Brazilians who joined Barcelona since 2021-22

The first transfer window for Barça during Laporta’s second term (he had already been in charge of the club between 2003 and 2010) was for the 2021/22 season, when they invested 14 million euros to re-sign Emerson Royal, who had been sold to Betis in February 2019. However, the full-back was transferred to Tottenham for €25 million on the final day of the transfer window. In winter, the Spanish team brought in Dani Alves, who had already shone at the club, although in this case, he joined as a free agent.

In the summer of 2022, the club secured a series of financial levers to invest more than in previous markets. That way, they broke the bank for several players, including winger Raphinha, who left Leeds United in a €58 million move.

Barcelona decided not to add Brazilians in the two subsequent transfer windows until Vitor Roque arrived in January 2024 from Athletico Paranaense. The striker was originally expected to move to Catalonia for the 2024/25 season, but Xavi Hernández and the board ultimately decided to bring him sooner.
