Athletico Paranaense and Bahia maintain their good moment that allows them to be leaders of the Brasileirão. In a tournament marked by a team’s lack of regularity and several matches suspended due to flooding in southern Brazil, both won their respective matches to see the rest from the top of the table.

Paranaense showed that their performance is not linked to luck. They beat two-time champions Palmeiras 2-0, with a goal from Pablo, from a free kick, and an own goal from Verdão’s captain, the Paraguayan Gustavo Gómez.

Abel Ferreira’s team could have gone ahead on the scoreboard with a penalty, but goalkeeper Bento, called up by Brazil for the 2024 Copa América, stopped Raphael Veiga’s shot. The duel was played at the Arena Barueri, since the Allianz Parque was the scene of a concert by Louis Tomlinson, former member of the band One Direction.

Bahía also climbed to 13 points, which beat Red Bull Bragantino 1-0 at home. The third victory in a row for the institution that belongs to the City Group came thanks to the conquest of Thaciano, at 37 minutes.

On the sixth day of the Brasileirão, Vasco da Gama also smiled, leaving the red zone by beating Vitória at home. Maicon and the Argentine Pablo Vegetti converted for the Rio team, which had the Frenchman Dmitri Payet from the start and hopes to sign the Portuguese Álvaro Pacheco as coach.

Flamengo, immersed in a small football crisis that is making it falter in the Copa Libertadores, also celebrated and is third. They beat Corinthians 2-0 at the Maracaná, with goals from Pedro and Lorran.

Cruzeiro is climbing further back and silently, taking advantage of Atlético Goianense and its problems adapting to the top division to beat it 1-0. The Belo Horizonte team has one game less and, if they win, they would also reach the top of the table.

Meetings suspended due to floods

The tragic floods in southern Brazil postponed three games. The teams from the state of Rio Grande do Sul (Inter, Grêmio and Juventude), affected by the rise in water, were unable to play their last two matches and requested the suspension of the entire championship for at least three days.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) delays a definition and, in the meantime, the ball continues rolling. And this will happen today at the MorumBIS stadium in the clash between São Paulo and Fluminense.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.

Binge the first five episodes available on Sambafoot’s Youtube channel. Stay tuned for upcoming releases as we keep telling this legend’s life story.
