Fans of Brazilian football might soon get semi-automatic offside technology. The CBF is in talks with Hawk-Eye could this in Brasileirão, to enhance officiating precision.

Wilson Seneme, head of the CBF arbitration committee, emphasized, “We are raising the possibility of using it. Taking it out of human hands.” This technology, already used in the World Cup and Champions League, promises to reduce human error.

However, implementation poses challenges due to costs and infrastructure requirements, including the need for 12 extra cameras per stadium. This is particularly difficult for smaller venues like Red Bull’s Nabizão and Vasco’s São Januário, which currently have limited camera setups.

Despite these hurdles, Seneme is confident in the existing system’s reliability, noting, “There were no line errors in this year’s national competitions. If there was a mistake, it was two last year.” His remarks come in the wake of a recent VAR review that disallowed a goal in the Palmeiras vs. Vasco match, noting an ongoing scrutiny of VAR decisions.
