Shortly after bidding farewell to Chelsea, Thiago Silva confirmed he will be joining Fluminense starting in July. The news delighted all the Tricolor fans in Rio de Janeiro, as well as Fernando Diniz’s squad.
Germán Cano, for example, celebrated the news with Globo Esporte, joking that he saw it coming: “The expectation is very good. I was very happy about his arrival, I also thanked him. I already knew (laughs), I had talked to him a few months ago and knew he was coming (laughs).”

Felipe Melo, who could play next to Silva at the back, also expressed his happiness: “He’s a great player, we won the Confederations Cup together and also played in a World Cup. We had many duels when he was at Milan and I was at Juventus. Then he went to PSG and I was at Inter Milan. So we know he will come to add, a great player, someone who already has a history at the club. We are all very happy with this signing and we hope that great things will happen.”
The 39-year-old will return home after 15 seasons in Europe, where he shone for Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea. Silva has also been a pivotal member of the Brazilian national team, participating in four World Cups.
Now he is preparing for a second spell at Fluminense, where he has signed a contract until 2026, although the immediate goal will be to succeed, with the pursuit of the second Libertadores title as a priority.
