Gabriel Jesus has been linked with a move away from Arsenal in the summer, with Mikel Arteta reportedly giving the green light to a potential transfer of the Brazilian foward. On Friday, the Spaniard denied this rumor in a press conference.

“I would love to keep him,” Arteta said about Jesus. “He knows that. The club is fully supportive of that. He’s a really important player with us, on and off the field. He makes us better so we want him to stay.”

The Palmeiras product made the move to north London from Manchester City in the summer of 2022 in a £45 million ($56.5m) deal. While he immediately established himself in the starting lineup, Jesus’ playing time declined this term with Kai Havertz playing up front.

Even so, Arteta made it clear he has no intention of letting the 27-year-old go: “I don’t know where this is coming from.”

Following a painful UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of Bayern in the quarterfinals, the Gunners now aim to challenge for the Premier League title until the end. With three games left, Arteta’s side lead the standings with 80 points, but City trail by just one point with a game in hand.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
