The condemnation of the Flamengo star was confirmed by a vote of 5 to 4 by the tribunal, and the punishment prevents the player from accessing the club’s facilities and taking the field for any team.
Contrary to the TJD-AD’s verdict, Gabriel Barbosa’s defense has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which has appointed the panel that will judge the player’s request.

Dates for the request for a stay of proceedings
The Brazilian’s defense submitted the documentation to open the request for a stay of proceedings on April 2 and appointed an English arbitrator.
The representative of the ABCD will be a German, and the Brazilian organization sent its reports on the 16th. The panel’s conclusion took place last Tuesday (24), with CAS appointing its mediator.
Understanding the step-by-step process for Gabigol’s trial
Gabigol’s stay of proceedings trial will be held at CAS with three arbitrators: one appointed by the player’s defense, another appointed by the ABCD (Brazilian Anti-Doping Authority), and one professional designated by CAS – treated as the session’s president.
After the arbitration is confirmed, the trial can be scheduled for any date, but CAS has no forecast to confirm the session for the Flamengo forward.
The three arbitrators will convene to judge Gabigol’s request for a stay of proceedings, and he will remain suspended until the final outcome of the appeal. In the event of a victory in the first session, the player may return to play while the final sentence is not announced.
According to the “ge” portal, the player’s defense is optimistic about the process, and the trial is expected to take place between the end of April and the beginning of May.
Non-payment by ABCD
The process at CAS can only be initiated with a judicial cost, which must be shared between the parties. Gabigol’s defense was notified that the ABCD did not pay its share of the costs, and the player himself paid the remainder to avoid delaying the process.
Mengão without Gabigol
While the top scorer is absent, Flamengo continues to work at Ninho do Urubu and returns to the field this Wednesday (24), at 9:30 PM (Brasília time), against Bolívar-BOL, away from home, for the third round of the Copa Libertadores group stage.
