James Rodríguez received authorization not to participate in São Paulo’s training on Sunday and to travel earlier than expected to Colombia for his national team’s preparation for the Copa América. Without a place in the team and in negotiations to be transferred, there are more doubts than certainties about whether the midfielder will return to Brazil again.

The former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich player has been without playing for almost a month and is not considered by Argentine coach Luis Zubeldía. In this context, he requested to anticipate his departure to visit his family and, without problems, was released by the Tricolor from São Paulo.

His contract with the club is until June 2025, although it seems these were his last days in Brazil. A Spanish club appears among those interested in hiring him, and in the past there have been inquiries from the United States and Turkey.

The fact is that tomorrow he must report to Barranquilla to start the concentration of Colombia. The national team has two friendly matches against the United States and Bolivia on June 8 and 15, respectively, on their agenda.

The team led by Néstor Lorenzo, who has among its figures Luis Díaz (Liverpool) and Jhon Arias (Fluminense), is part of Group C of the Copa América along with Brazil, Paraguay and Costa Rica. Their participation begins on June 24 against the Paraguayan national team.
